         Tamagotchi. The Tamagotchi (たまごっち, Tamagotchi) is a handheld digital pet created in 1996 by Aki Maita and sold by Bandai. Over 10 million Tamagotchis have been sold as of 2005. The Tamagotchi is housed in a small and simple egg-shaped computer. Three buttons (A, B, and C) allow the user to select and perform an activity, including: Feeding the Tamagotchi a piece of food or a snack. Playing games with the Tamagotchi. Cleaning up a Tamagotchi's waste. Checking its age, discipline, hunger, happiness and other statistics. There are five versions and it is very likely that more varieties of tamagotchis will be made. Lately, 2 of my schoolmates/classmates have been getting themselves hooked once more one this little gadget. Tamagotchi was probably once popular among the school girls (back in school) when I was probably in sec 2. Many owned one cause it was cheap at that time. It was probably like the rubik's cube kind of trend, I would say. I usually would walk to the bus stop at the market from school with these 2 friends so whatever sources I put here about this little handheld pet would be reliable. (they provided my sources) After my science mcq paper, Friend A pulled out her little pet and started to feed it. At first, I wasn't shocked that she was playing with a Tamagotchi. It was rather normal in fact. However, Friend B saw Friend A fumbling with her toy and pulled out her own one as well. Interestingly, I wasn't affected. So I looked at my 2 buddies fiddling with their Tamagotchis as we walked out of school. Friend B showed me her pets, she had 3 of them cause hers was a Tamagotchi Version 5. (seriously, Tamagotchi HAS versions!?!?!?!?!?!) So, she told us the names of her 3 pets that she was highly proud of. One of them was called MOUSECHI. What did it look like??? A COMPUTER MOUSE. (I almost died.) Still on our way out of the school compound, Friend B informed us that Tamagotchi has a version 5.5. And she told us the difference between a 5 and 5.5. THE AMAZING DIFFERENCE IS: YOUR PETS ARE OF ROYAL BLOOD. (WOW. and I replied: MAYBE THAT'S WHY IT WAS VERSION 5.5 AND NOT VERSION 6. IT WASN'T GOOD ENOUGH TO BE A 6.) And because Friend A and Friend B are my adorable nutcases, they cracked out laughing like their pets cracking out from the eggs. Finally, we're out of school. Friend A and Friend B tried to connect their tamagotchi together. To their disappointment, it wasn't possible. You see Friend A has a Tamagotchi Version 4 while Friend B has a Tamagotchi Version 5. So it was a failed attempt. And while they tried, I looked at them hoping things would actually work. So still on the way to the bus stop. Friend A was whining that she wished she could have 1 more Tamagotchi Version 4 so that her pet could mate. (Tamagotchi Version 4 has one 1 pet while Tamagotchi Version 5 has 3.) And then Friend B changed the topic, and told us that if she showed her pets a key... On the screen: The key sparkles. 3 pets turn to each other WOW-ing. After 5 seconds, 3 pets jump in a row YAY-ing. (once again, I almost died.) After that, Friend B was telling Friend A on the growth charts of Tamagotchi pets. For Version 4 here's how it goes: blob -> stawberry/mushroom -> some ugly thing? (This is according to my friends.) Last Tamagotchi Version 5 system info was that even the pet's shit had a name. IT'S CALLED: LUCKY USHI-KUN. The shit even had wings. (I died.) So okay, after that we blabbered more and we still weren't at the bus stop yet. You can actually imagined how much we talked. So eventually, the subject moved on to the older versions of Tamagotchi. Like the one that involved actual animals such as kittens and puppies & digimon. That's if you do remember. I, myself used to be a owner of 4 of these little handheld pets. 1 kitten, 1 dog, 2 digimon. Eventually, they disappeared to a place not even where I can remember. The advance "improvements" on this little play toy has surely enlightened my 2 friends & I'm sure, many other fellow children out there. I suppose the advantage is that it encourages responsibility to some extent but it can also be a distraction in studies and all, that's for sure. (: Tamagotchi, a handheld digital pet housed in a small and simple egg-shaped computer. Unique & rather addictive.
