i think majority of the people living in singapore would play safe than take risks. in my opinion that is. study here, study there, study study everywhere. it's like, so what even if you keep studying AND still don't show any improvement in your results or do badly in the end? do not get me wrong. i'm not saying that people shouldn't study to do well in studies. but if studying so much isn't effective for one's self, then what is the point of telling yourself to keep studying? gosh. i understand that people would definately want to achieve good grades. and one may be prudent when it comes to the important topic: "MY FUTURE" to have as many choices & opportunities possible. SO DO I. but all in all. isn't it a waste of time if it isn't effective? i mean i agree that it is better to be safe than sorry and do everything to your fullest potential for the important situation. but i think one should be rational when it comes to knowing what's best for one's self. i know of friends who occupy with themselves with tuition non-stop, and crash course themselves for english exams. (not talking about the rest of the subjects) i mean reading composition books and memorising them isn't going to help. all the more you read them, all the more you'll have a tendency to copy the style of writing. it's not wrong. but then again, it'll lead one to start using vocabulary that they do not even understand themselves. i mean the examiner would probably know that you got your sentence from composition books or will feel that your essay/story is rather immature. i would only say that composition books come in handy in terms of a good storyline/plot/argument. it can be used as an inspiration for short essays. but honestly. i would rather pick up a good novel and read more than wasting my money on composition books. that's in my opinion of course, i don't expect you to agree with me. i encourage building up an interest in reading. i mean if you enjoy watching tv dramas and movies that had been adapted from a book. WHY NOT READ THE BOOK AS WELL? you would enjoy it yourself wouldn't it? i mean the reason why people hardly read more these days would probably be because, cost of books are increasing, it's not as entertaining as movies or tv programmes, there's no time for books or one is just too lazy to read them. i just don't get it. people in this world are willing to invest time and money on studies that might not be effective for them but have little time for spending a much smaller sum of money or no money at all to buy a good book which would definately help alot more than what they are investing in. (in general, not to any particulat topic.) of course there is a group of people who do read and invest in something to help them improve themselves. i am one of them. therefore, i feel that people shouldn't only rely on tutoring or others to teach them how to learn. instead people should try to be independent and learn new things on their own will as well. trying not to be always be spoon-fed by others, and i think it's about time for many to grow up. |
